There are several reasons why TED Talks presentations will improve your IELTS scores. Especially, TED Talks are useful to improve your academic listening and writing skills.
TED Talks, a free online resource, is designed to inspire people with innovative ideas. Every speaker has an interesting project to share with the audience.
I personally LOVE watching TED Talks because they are fun to watch and they are super informative. I decided to write this post because I believe that TED Talks presentations are useful for English speakers who are working on their IELTS, particularly on their academic listening and writing skills. Take advantage of TED Talks in the following ways …
TED Talks does not just invite innovative researchers; but also they invite excellent speakers to their forums. Excellent speakers are usually good “talkers.” TED Talkspresentations are usually short (4 to 10 minutes), thus a viewer never gets tired.
Plus, the topics are academic in nature. Because IELTS academic tests include academic lectures, TED Talks can be useful for those who are prepping for IELTS academic tests.
So, if you watch TED Talks, you do not just improve your English listening skills; IN FACT you will improve your listening skills necessary for IELTS academic test. Keep your motivation up and listen to TED Talks.
TED Talks has English-English subtitles for the presentations. It is always good to watch a presentation using English-English subtitles. You can always learn the spelling and/or the use of new words when the subtitle feature is on.
Plus, English language learners can watch presentations with their translations as well. TED Talks presentations are translated into many different languages (e.g., Russian, Arabic, Turkish are common). Learners can listen to TED Talks in English and follow either English-English subtitles or their translations.
So, IELTS test takers should take advantage of the free TED Talks features.
Academic Writing Opportunities
After each presentation, people discuss the issues pertaining to the presentation. People who comment on presentations oftentimes post interesting comments or facts about the presenters or the topic.
Thus, once learners finish watching a TED Talks presentation, they should also post a comment about the topic. By doing so, they should be able to IMPROVE their writing and USE some specific vocabulary from the presentation.
This activity is useful for IELTS WRITING because learners do not just READ other people’s comments but also WRITE posts on TED Talks presentations.
Are you getting ready for the IELTS and improve your academic listening and writing in a natural way? My answer is START WATCHING TED TALKS …
