If you are thinking of taking IELTS or TOEFL and do not know which one to take, I am sure you will find the information in the following infographic very useful. Click on the image below to view in larger size.
From the infographic you can see that IELTS took over TOEFL in 2011 and Google has also predicted that more people will be searching for the term ‘IELTS’ rather than TOEFL by July 2013 (which has already passed).
IMPORTANT! But what to do if you already have spent your precious time, energy, resources and most importantly your hard earned or hard saved money to take TOEFL test?
If you already have TOEFL and the university you are applying for officially requires IELTS, just take a small risk. Visit, e-mail or call that university and ask if they can accept what you already have as equivalent to IELTS.
Here what you can say:
“Excuse me, Sir I was just wondering if I could ask you one quick question?”
“Yes sure. Go ahead.”
“I already have my TOEFL score, but I just found out that you need an IELTS instead. Don’t you accept any other certificates with equivalent scores? If not, then I respect your requirements. I will take IELTS exam. I just wanted to check with you before starting my preparation.”
Try it and I do hope you will solve the problem for your own benefit because after the worldwide crisis universities around the world do not actually care whether you have IELTS or TOEFL. They just want to make sure to recruit a student with a good level of spoken and written English; with good listening and speaking skills.
The student with good English will succeed during his studies at an international university. For example, if you are A student and if you succeed, it means you will stay and graduate from the university successfully. In order to stay and graduate, you will have to pay all your fees. Paid fees mean financially stable university. Plain and simple!
So if you are applying for education in an international university and have TOEFL not IELTS, first check. Nobody will kill you for checking with the university.
