I was also a student just like you and I also hated doing not some but many of my homework assignments. But some of my homework I loved doing and there were many reasons for that. For example, I knew why I should do my homework and how it was used in real life.
If I didn’t see the real-life connection, I could hardly ever do my homework. So that’s why I decided to present you the list of tactics I used to learn some of the subjects like English for example and tactics used by other successful students I taught over the past 10 years.
Now don’t tell me you don’t want to do your homework because you have no conditions at home. I am sure you do have all the conditions. Let me tell you about a boy I see every time I go to one place.
Near Chilanzar Metro station, there is a cafe called Bigway. Many of you must have heard or seen this fast food restaurant located just in the corner of the road. If you happen to eat there one day, take your time and ask for their toilet. They will direct you upstairs onto the second floor.
Using toilet services will cost you 500 soums. When you make your payment, please pay attention to that little guy running the toilet business. He is a quite different boy aged between 15-17. He seems to be sitting there all day and serving the people and instead of just sitting and wasting his time, I always see him reading and writing something.
Now I don’t want to say he always does his homework there. Maybe he does. I want to say that even though he is working in the toilet with absolutely no conditions around, I hope and I believe he is busy with learning new things, enriching his knowledge and discovering the world out of that smelly toilet.
God wishes he will be the one with prosperous future.
Alright! So now you realized that you have no excuses and that you have a good room to study and do your homework, right? Let’s see what I got to say about successful students.
1. They always start with positive attitude
You know they don’t say “Oh Gosh I have to sit 4 hours now and do my stupid homework assignments” They look at it positively. They love doing everything their teacher gave and they even go beyond what was given at school. They sit and do their homework and you just can’t stop them.
2. They see the connection between their homework & a real life
They know why they are doing their homework, why it is important and how it will benefit them in the real life. They always try to practise what they learn. That’s why when they do their homework they have a positive attitude because they know in what ways their knowledge will benefit them tomorrow.
3. They do them right after their lessons
They don’t delay doing their homework. Why? Because they know more they delay, more it will be difficult for them to do their homework. More it will be difficult to remember what they discussed in the class, what their teacher told and what notes they took.
4. They start with the easier tasks
They open their materials and start shooting all the easiest tasks because this way they will accomplish about 70-80 % of their homework assignment in short time. They don’t get stuck in one difficult, complicated and time-consuming task for ages because they know that’s not the smart way of doing the homework. So they …
5. They take breaks and reward themselves
So they take breaks. And not only they take breaks. They take breaks and reward themselves for doing a good job and finishing about 70-80 % of the homework. This will help them stay motivated, happy and focused. When they are happy, their brain is open. And you know what? The brain works well when we are happy.
6. They get back to the business after a break
Unlike many other students, successful students always come back after their break. It does not matter what may happen during the break. They try not to lose their focus, drive and work-mood.
7. They never fill in the empty lines
They don’t do their homework for the sake of doing the homework. When they are doing tasks in their workbooks they use their dictionaries if they see any new words, they use their creativity if they write an essay and they use their common sense if they get stuck in the middle.
8. They prepare all their tools
They know if their pencil is not sharpened or not in the place, they will have to get up and do it in the middle of their job. Why is it bad? Because once you get into the work mood it can be hard to get back to that mode again.
9. They never let their family bother
Because they take their homework seriously and because they do their homework during some specific time period their family members also know and respect this commitment. That’s why they don’t bother them. If they do, these successful students kindly explain that they should do their homework with a high quality and for that to happen nobody should bother them.
10. They switch off all their social media stuff
They don’t do their homework with their Facebook, Odnoklassniki, What’s App, Telegram, Instagram open and running. They shut everything down and then get down to their homework.
My bonus! They never do their homework
What? They never do their homework? Yes, when they do their homework, they don’t actually feel they are doing homework which must be done. Learning new things and discovering the world is their life. And homework is a little part of that big journey. That’s how they see things. They always do their homework, but they don’t think they are doing their homework.
